Interview with author Michelle M. Pillow

Five Facts: I used to be painfully shy--hide behind the television so I didn't have to talk to people shy.

I once pet a rhinoceros' belly. He rolled onto his side like a giant puppy.

I prefer red toenail polish to any other color.

I recently received my 100 published books pin from RWA. I've been published for almost 15 years. I've written in multiple romance genres - paranormal, historical, contemporary, futuristic, sci fi, fantasy - and have recently published cozy mysteries.

I still have my 10 year old dream of publishing a photography book and having my work shown in museums.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Around 10, my dad gave me my first camera, and from that moment on I wanted to be a photographer working for National Geographic.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
When I read the book Travels with Charley by Steinbeck, I had the strongest urge to do what he did--travel around and meet people, see their lives and hear their stories. I want to go to every country.

Do you have any hobbies? I started out as a photographer, and thought that was what I would always do. The writing career launched and took me in a whole new direction. But I still love to pick up my camera when I get a chance.

What was your first kiss like?
Unforgettable...but not for the right reasons. It wasn't good.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I'm an extroverted introvert. I used to be painfully shy. It was hard at first for me to get out there and do reader events and book signings. Now, I still tend to be a private person, but I'm more outgoing.

How do you handle negative reviews?
Luckily, the majority of my reviews are positive ones. I have wonderfully supportive readers! <3

I don't know many people who aren't affected by criticism in some way, but you can't let that negativity infect you. As I've gotten older, I've come to the conclusion that it's only an opinion and if they don't like reading my work there are plenty of other authors they can choose from.

Do you get nervous before a book release?
Nervous and Excited. It usually hits in around the time all the promo and marketing is set and I have nothing to do but sit and wait for the release.
